Compassionate leadership in social care, and Family Justice, are the two main focuses of this year’s Association of Directors of Social Services (Cymru) Annual Spring Seminar, due to take place in Cardiff City Centre on Thursday 5th March.
Health and social care have been working together on an ambitious ten-year workforce strategy to address the challenges facing the sector, with compassionate and inclusive leadership being a core principle. The seminar session, to be presented by organisational leadership expert, Professor Michael West of the King’s Fund, will provide a crucial opportunity for leaders to explore and discuss the approach.
President of ADSS Cymru, Sue Cooper said:
“ADSS Cymru is delighted to have the opportunity to host this important session, which will enable us as social care and health leaders to consider the principles of compassionate leadership; and to explore how we will collectively build a culture fit for the future – that values our workforce and prioritises their wellbeing, inclusion and development, and results in better care for citizens.”
The Seminar will also host a session by Sir Andrew McFarlane, President of the Family Division in Wales and England, on the latest developments around Family Justice. Sir Andrew, who became President in 2018, recently completed a tour of the 52 Designated Family Judge court centres in England and Wales and is currently undertaking a review of transparency in the family courts. The session has attracted great interest from practitioners across Wales who are involved with child and family law. Sue Cooper said:
“As leaders and practitioners working in the child protection system, we look forward to welcoming Sir Andrew to this year’s seminar, and to have the opportunity to gain further knowledge and insight into the direction being taken by the family judiciary.
We recognise the importance of this seminar not only to our members, but to our wider colleagues involved in child protection and are delighted to facilitate such a significant event, and to see so many delegates keen to participate.”
The 2020 Spring Seminar, which will be opened by the Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services, Julie Morgan AM, is the largest organised by ADSS Cymru to date. The event will be attended by an audience of local authorities’ social services leaders, practitioners and cabinet members from across Wales, Welsh Government leaders, as well as key partnership organisations involved with the delivery of social care, health, law and housing.
