Unpaid Carers Project
ADSS Cymru is pleased to share a suite of practical resources developed through the Unpaid Carers Project to support social care practitioners and teams across Wales.
This work has focused on strengthening practice in relation to unpaid carers' needs assessments. Alongside the final report, the project has produced a set of accessible tools designed to support day-to-day practice, build confidence, and promote greater consistency in how assessments are approached and delivered.
Practice tools and resources
Training videos
Two training videos have been developed to support social care practitioners in carrying out unpaid carers needs assessments.
The videos feature conversations with experienced social care colleagues and provide first-hand insight into the key things to consider when preparing for and carrying out an assessment. They are designed to support reflective practice, build confidence, and offer practical guidance that can be applied in real-world settings.
Unpaid carers needs assessment flowchart
A flowchart has been developed to clearly set out the steps a practitioner would follow when carrying out an unpaid carers needs assessment.
This resource is intended as a practical reference tool for both experienced practitioners and those who may not carry out these assessments regularly. It can be used to support consistency in practice, act as a prompt during assessments, and reinforce key stages in the process.
