National Evaluation of the Social Services and Well-being Act – the IMPACT study
| Colleagues from the Welsh Institute for Health and Social Care, University of South Wales in partnership with academics from Swansea, Cardiff and Bangor Universities have been researching the implementation of the Social Services and Well-being Act – the IMPACT study: https://wihsc.southwales.ac.uk/evaluation-implementation-social-services-and-well-being-wales-act-gwerthuso-gweithrediad-deddf-gwasanaethau-cymdeithasol-llesiant-cymru/. The study is being led by Professor Mark Llewellyn (mark.llewellyn@southwales.ac.uk). It commenced in November 2018, and publications from the work to date can be found here: https://gov.wales/evaluation-social-services-and-well-being-wales-act-2014. There are three areas of focus for their work over the coming months to make you aware of.

The NHS and Social Care Life Assurance (Wales) scheme was established in July 2020. | The scheme is operated by the NHS Business Service Authority on behalf of Welsh Ministers.
The scheme pays a lump sum of £60,000 to beneficiaries in respect of the death of NHS and social care staff where the Welsh Ministers can reasonably conclude the person’s death was caused by COVID-19 contracted through their role.

IMPACT: Improving Adult Care Together
“good support isn’t just about ‘services’ – it’s about having a life.”
IMPACT is a new £15 million UK centre for implementing evidence in adult social care, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), part of UK Research and Innovation, and the Health Foundation.
How can I find out more and get involved? Please email impactcentre | IMPACT will be an ‘implementation centre’, drawing on knowledge gained from different types of research, the lived experience of people using services and their carers, and the practice wisdom of social care staff. It will work across the UK to make sure that it is embedded in, and sensitive to, the very different policy contexts in each of the four nations, as well as being able to share learning across the UK as a whole.
IMPACT will spend 2021 consulting with key stakeholders across adult social care, and across the four nations of the UK. This will include:
