The ADSS Cymru Spring Seminar will again take place in Cardiff this year, on March 5th 2020.
Attendance at the seminar is by invitation only, and is an opportunity for members and key partners to meet and discuss current issues affecting social services across Wales. This year for the first time we will be extending invitations to an audience of third tier social services managers, as part of our extended membership offering.
We’re delighted to announce that our guest speakers for our Spring Seminar will be:
- Professor Michael A West
- Sir Andrew McFarlane
Michael West is Senior Fellow at the King’s Fund, London and Professor of Organizational Psychology at Lancaster University Management School.
The focus of his research over 30 years has been culture and leadership in organisations, team and organisational innovation and effectiveness, particularly in relation to the organisation of health services. He provides regular policy advice to many national NHS organisations. He led the Department of Health Policy Research Programme into cultures of quality and safety in the NHS in England from 2009 to 2013. He also led the NHS National Staff Survey development and implementation for eight years and has built an unparalleled evidence base. He lectures widely both nationally and internationally about the results of his research and solutions for developing effective and innovative health care organisations.
The Rt Hon Lord Justice McFarlane
Sir Andrew McFarlane was called to the Bar in 1977 and practiced in chambers in Birmingham until 1993 when he moved to specialist family law chambers in London. He appeared at all levels of court including the House of Lords and the European Court of Human Rights. He was appointed as a QC in 1998. In April 2005 he was appointed to the High Court, Family Division and was for 5 years the Family Division Liaison Judge for the Midland Circuit.
On the 28th July 2018 Sir Andrew succeeded Sir James Munby as President of the Family Division and Head of Family Justice.
Together with the late David Hershman he is the co-author of a loose-leaf legal text book entitled “Children: Law and Practice”. In addition, he has contributed to other publications and lectured throughout the UK and abroad.
Sir Andrew has been a trustee of YoungMinds (the national young person’s mental health charity) and is Patron of HOPE Family Centre (Bromyard).
